A ballerina dances to the music in a young girl’s jewelry box, Barbie dolls lay sprinkled on the floor, a warm home with loving parents…none of these things are a reality for countless girls around the world.

Instead, they are forced to cut off the dreams blooming inside of them and grow up real fast – many becoming mothers before even reaching their teen years.

Stop the Trafficking, a conference held at The Chapel last month, brought to light the issues that are taking place across the world and right here in America.

Did you know that there are more human slaves in the world right now than ever before in history?

Approximately 27 million people are trapped in this spider web of perverse modern day slavery throughout the world – and even scarier – 13 million children.

Human trafficking is an illegal, underground business that takes on many forms, mostly involving sex and work for little to no pay.

This past weekend, the Chapel, an Akron-based Christian church, hosted “Stop the Trafficking,” a conference that highlighted the horrifying facts and statistics on the reality of this mind-boggling 21st century form of slavery. It also offered the hope of how you and I can take steps to end this.

Local Woman Makes “Pedals for Heroes” Her Lifelong Journey

Cassie Schumacher, founder of Pedal’s for Heroes, is a woman with a passionate purpose: to honor the life of veterans. She is determined to make the sacrifices of their lives echo in the hearts and minds of others and throughout history.

When asked what makes someone suddenly want to start a nonprofit organization for veterans, Schumacher’s response came from the heart: “I think things happen over a lifetime. I grew up with a father who was a Vietnam vet. He was a very respected businessman, active in the community and he gave back to other people.”
