Summit County Children Services School Supplies Program Receives Support from ‘Youngest Donor Ever’

Little Maya Burke may not even be one year old yet, but she’s already made a grown-up impact on the lives of many children in the care of Summit County Children Services.

To celebrate their recent adoption of Maya through Summit County Children Services, her parents Amanda and Vanessa Burke decided to have a party for family and friends to meet and celebrate Maya. They called it Maya’s ‘Gotcha Day.’  And instead of toys for Maya, they asked their guests to bring school supplies – which would be donated to Children Services’ annual School Supplies Program which helps hundreds of children in agency care get a solid start to the new school year.

Free meals available for local children during summer months

As the school year wraps up, the City of Akron Recreation Bureau will once again provide meals to area children through the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all eligible youth (18 yrs and under) and summer day camp programs that meet the income guidelines for reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program.

The income guidelines for reduced-price meals by family size will be available upon request. For more information, please contact Audley McGill at 330.375.2821.

Project Shine

Many negative things have been written about today’s youth- how they are self-(or selfie) centered and lazy.  In today’s blog, though, we’d like to share a different side of local teens as they serve with one of our partner ministries, Project Shine.

Project Shine’s mission is “to connect individuals to Christ through basic home improvement and ministry in our communities, while spiritually investing in our participants.”  Area youth commit to serve for a week (late afternoon Sunday through Friday evening) where they are challenged both physically in their work teams, as well as, spiritually during daily devotions and praise and worship times.
