Akron Pregnancy Services: Miracles and New Hope Every Day – 2013-05-05

“We see miracles every day in the people that God brings in for us to talk to,” Kaye Gauder, Executive Director of Akron Pregnancy Services (APS), said.

“In our classes, when people have that ‘aha’ moment, and begin to really see what’s going on in their lives and want to make a change, there’s nothing bigger than that to me,” she continued.

APS, a Christian, non-profit, non-political, social service agency, is designed to help women facing unplanned pregnancy. Their doors are open to women from their initial pregnancy testing appointment, throughout the pregnancy with classes; and continues with mentoring and support after childbirth.

Although Sue Meyer, Medical Director, and her husband began the clinic, she says “This has been something that has been encouraged and helped by a ton of people to come into fruition.”

Local hospitals, churches, businesses and tradesmen have all played a part in this beautiful facility coming together.

“The facility was basically made over by contractors that volunteered their time. Paint stores that gave us paint. Pretty much what you see here, 98% of it was donated,” Meyer said.

Volunteers gave of themselves and their time, without expecting anything in return, to care for those who are truly in need.

October 1st of this year marked a new day in healthcare for the Akron area.

Faithful Servants Mission (FSM), a 501c3, faith-based health care organization, opened their doors to provide free care for the uninsured. The warm, welcoming clinic provides urgent care services for the working poor who do not have health insurance.

“The hope is to combine churches and the medical profession to provide care for people who are uninsured,” Sue Meyer, Medical Director, said.

At the end of their visit, patients don’t owe a penny.

This brings in many of the sick and hurting that have not been cared for while saving them from costly emergency room visits that they cannot afford.
