Akron’s Ronald McDonald House Takes Burden off of Parents 
of Sick Children – 2012-11-18

Human TraffickingA freshly brewed pot of McDonald’s coffee and the smell of baking cookies have a way of making anyone feel right at home. This welcoming atmosphere at Akron’s Ronald McDonald House (RMH), also known as “The House that Love Built”, has been in existence since 1985.

The RMH, a local gem that many are unaware of, houses families of sick children staying nearby at the Akron Children’s Hospital. They want families to feel as “at-home” as possible, and focus on the healing of their children, rather than the burdens of daily tasks.

Last year the RMH served 655 families, totaling about 11,169 individuals. They had to turn away 5,149 families.

Community Support Services Brings Hope, Empowerment and Recovery: Part Two – 2012-08-29

Daily, the Community Support Services (CSS) building is busy with clients waiting to receive help to be stable enough just to make it through the day.

CSS, a local, mental health non-profit agency, sits on Cross Street, providing crucial services to many facing severe mental health issues. Without CSS, their world would be entirely different.

Jessica Sikorski, a 25 year old client at CSS, can’t thank this organization enough.

Did you know that 1 in every 5 adults has a diagnosable mental disorder?

Statistics like this reveal a need for much care and support. But what does that look like?

Community Support Services (CSS) is a shining example of a full-circle facility of care for the mentally ill in Summit County, and has been for nearly 25 years. They consider themselves a “one-stop support center”, providing employment, housing, treatment, pharmacy and more for those dealing with severe mental health issues.

Primary health care, psychiatric services, a laboratory and pharmacy are all brought together at this one site.
