Akron Police Department Develops New Team to Tackle Biggest Local Issues (Part One)

With never-ending calls pouring in daily to the Akron Police Department (APD), have you ever wondered what some of their biggest concerns for this area are?

We recently visited the APD to get the inside scoop, and found there’s something big that they’re working on to greatly improve our area.

Their Neighborhood Response Teams (NRT) came together this past spring thanks to a grant, and much good has come from it.

Inner City Ministry Makes Courageous Move to Improve Neighborhood PART 2

South Street Ministries (SSM) has come a long way since the last time we caught up with them.  Their building is hardly recognizable on the inside anymore, as they’ve remodeled it to house a community café and meeting space for recovering addicts, citizens being integrated back into society after jail/prison, or anyone just trying to stay out of trouble and improve their life.

Happy 20th Anniversary, Love Akron!

Robert DeJournett, Director of Community Relations & Diversity, Summa Health Systems and Chairman of the Board for the Love Akron Network, welcomed the nearly 700 people at the 3rd Annual Love Akron Awards breakfast Sept. 30. The event, held at the John S. Knight center, brought together a mix of businessmen and women, nonprofit organizations, ministry leaders and local philanthropic groups, as well as political leaders.

“The theme for this morning is simply, Servant Hearts. These two words capture the essence of Love Akron’s mission,” said The Rev. Dennis Butts, Associate Pastor at The House of the Lord.
