East Akron Neighborhood Development Corp. StormWaterColors project selected as national finalist for placemaking funding

 

East Akron Neighborhood Development Corporation’s (EANDC) StormWaterColors project proposal is one of 70 finalists for ArtPlace America’s 2017 National Creative Placemaking Fund (NCPF).

ArtPlace selected these 70 proposals from 987 applications, making EANDC’s project one of just 7 percent of the projects across the country to make this cut.

Early Educators Help Increase High-Quality Teacher/Child Interactions

Elevate, celebrate and support are three items on the agenda of a new, exclusive group of early educators.

CLASS Act Scholars of Summit County is a new program that combines the Classroom Assessment Scoring System® (CLASS®) with free coaching, mentoring and professional development for a group of 20 educators working in Summit County preschools and child care centers. Generous funding from GAR Foundation, GPD Group Employees’ Foundation and PNC Foundation will support CLASS Act Scholars’ pilot year and beyond.

STEM Students Design Solutions to Opioid Abuse

 

Ohio is facing a major opioid overdose crisis. And as many Ohio families fight opioid abuse, the impact cascades into the learning environments in Ohio schools. Last fall, Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria and the Ohio STEM Learning Network challenged Ohio’s students to design solutions to help end the opioid crisis. Throughout this school year, more than 1,200 students accepted the challenge and developed hundreds of ideas to fight opioid abuse.
