The Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority (AMHA) does much more than just house people. It isn’t a free ride, and people are closely screened to make sure that they are truly in need and eligible.

“The truth is, when somebody applies for public housing they go through more scrutiny than most people do in getting a job,” Anthony O’Leary, Executive Director of AMHA, said.

Family members, income, birth certificates, immigration status, military status and criminal records are all checked.

“And we repeat it once a year,” O’Leary said.

With the first signs of spring and early sun shining down on the endeavors of one local woman, daring to make a difference, it was a good day. Julie Costell, owner of Ms. Julie’s Kitchen — a local, organic vegan restaurant — is turning her dreams into a reality.

Youth with a Mission:

All Over the World Part Two – 2012-06-20

Jennifer Patterson, Director of Youth with a Mission (YWAM) Akron, gave herself fully to the outreach after first experiencing it at age 16. Since then she has lived in Australia and Mexico and traveled to over 26 nations.

Her travels have taught her lessons worth more than gold, and left a legacy beyond what anyone can imagine.

“We saw hundreds of kids come to know the Lord while in Australia. And in Mexico we saw so many people either return to the Lord or come to the Lord,” Patterson said.

She also taught the teachings of Jesus to those in India, Malaysia and Taiwan where she had life-changing experiences.
