and Get Information About the Collection Effort.

 

Project RISE from Akron Public Schools

This fall, the University Of Akron Department Of Student Life held their fourth school supplies collection drive for Project RISE. Project RISE (Realizing Individual Strength through Education) is a federally funded program through Ohio Department of Education.  It is a collaborative effort by Akron Public Schools, local shelters and the community to provide supplemental educational services to children and youth who are experiencing homelessness.

The collection effort was coordinated by Alison Doehring, the assistant director of the Department of Student Life. From July to September, the school supplies were collected on campus. The donations came from students, staff and faculty members. All in all, almost 3,000 items were collected for children experiencing homelessness. (more…)

New Permanent Supportive Housing Opens in Akron (Part 2)

New Permanent Supportive Housing

Previously, we shared about the opening of The Commons at Madeline Park, a brand-new, 60 unit, Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) facility for the homeless, mentally ill, disabled, and veterans.

According to experts in this area, PSH may be the best new route to go in terms of housing people facing these particular circumstances.
